ABOUT RAINFOREST ALLIANCE

Rainforest Alliance is a third-party certifier of a variety of products, not just coffee. The organization works to help farmers to increase efficiency, reduce costly inputs and improve farm management -- all while maintaining the natural conditions of the rainforest. Workers on certified farms benefit from a cleaner, safer, more dignified workplace where their rights are respected.

.............................................................................. Rainforest Alliance Certification does not
verify the coffee was grown organically.

Rainforest Alliance Certification does not
verify coffee is Fair Trade certified.
..............................................................................

Certification allows farmers, businesses, human rights advocates and environmentalists to work together to seek equitable and science-based solutions to problems and puts them in direct contact with leading-edge research, new practices and technologies.

The Rainforest Alliance uses certification to award growers who meet their guidelines for sustainability. The certification seal acts as a guarantee, assuring consumers that the products they are buying have been produced and/or manufactured according to a specific set of criteria balancing ecological, economic, and social considerations.

Under the auspices of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN), the Rainforest Alliance and their partner organizations work with farmers to bring their operations up to their standards for protecting wildlife, wild lands, workers’ rights and local communities.

The SAN awards the Rainforest Alliance Certified eco-label to farms, not to companies or products. Farmers may apply for certification for all land in production and companies may request that all of their source farms be certified. In addition, companies may register with the Rainforest Alliance in order to begin purchasing and selling product as certified. Certification is wholly voluntary; the process begins with an application by the farmer.

Because of the lack of integration
between the various methods of
certification, Beantrees employs
only the three most consistent and
most stringently monitored coffee
certifications: USDA, QAI,
and FAIR TRADE.

We are working within the coffee
industry to promote a "super seal"
that will identify coffees that
meet the highest levels of ethical,
social & environmental standards.
